Exploring and Comparing Calcium Silicate-Based Bioceramic Materials and Obturation Techniques
Dr. Gilberto Debelian
Since the introduction of calcium silicate–based bioceramic sealers, their clinical use has increased substantially over the past 16 years. Recent surveys indicate that approximately 50% of American Association of Endodontists (AAE) members and 27% of American Dental Association (ADA) members currently use these materials, surpassing resin-based sealers and establishing bioceramic sealers as the most widely adopted sealer type in contemporary endodontic practice.
The growing interest in bioceramic materials has led to the development of numerous calcium silicate–based products, including premixed sealers and putties, by multiple manufacturers. Premixed formulations offer improved handling and clinical convenience. However, despite the rapid expansion of commercially available products over the past five years, clinical and laboratory evidence supporting the performance of many newer materials remains limited. Although commonly grouped under the term “bioceramic sealers,” these products demonstrate significant variability in chemical composition, sealing properties, and biological behavior.
This presentation aims to compare the most widely used premixed bioceramic products currently available and to demonstrate their clinical applications and obturation techniques through representative case examples.

Internal Resorption – Traditional and New Treatment Options
Dr. Michael Arnold
Internal resorptions are usually asymptomatic. As a consequence of pulpitis, odontoclasts are activated and resorb dentin within the root canal, thereby allowing an increased influx of inflammatory cells to counteract microbial invasion. As a result, the resorptive process may eventually lead to root perforation or root fracture.
The aim of this lecture is to present the different types of internal resorption and to highlight their biological and clinical differences. Available treatment options will be demonstrated, with particular emphasis on practical clinical guidelines for effective cleaning, disinfection, and optimal sealing of the affected root canal systems. In addition, a novel therapeutic approach for biological repair will be presented, including preliminary long-term results.

Enhancing endodontic excellence: navigating the new frontiers of 3D imaging
Dr. Bruno Azevedo
In the dynamic field of endodontics, the rise of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) represents a pivotal shift in our approach to dental diagnostics. This lecture explores the transformative impact of high-resolution, limited field-of-view CBCT, offering endodontists a superior level of detail in assessing tooth structure, root morphology, and both odontogenic and osseous pathologies. It also illustrates the cutting-edge advancements in 3D imaging technology and their practical applications within our specialty. Additionally, the course will illuminate the role of task-specific enhancement filters, providing insights into their optimal use in various clinical scenarios. Participants will emerge from this presentation equipped with the knowledge to harness the full potential of CBCT imaging, thereby elevating the standard of endodontic care.

Evolving Apical Surgery: Classic Principles, Contemporary Precision
Dr. Allen Ali Nasseh
This presentation traces the evolution of endodontic surgery from its early days as a broad, catch-all solution to its current role as a precise and conservative treatment for persistent cases of root canal failure. While innovations in diagnostics, magnification, microsurgical instrumentation, and biomaterials have significantly enhanced our ability to plan and perform apical surgery, the core biological and mechanical principles that drive long-term success have remained largely unchanged.
Dr. Nasseh revisits these enduring fundamentals and explores how modern technologies have sharpened surgical accuracy while enabling a more streamlined and biologically respectful approach. The presentation emphasizes a rational simplification of technique—focusing on the essential elements of apical surgery that lead to predictable, efficient, and confident clinical outcomes.

A Breakthrough in Dentistry: Extraosseous Inflammatory Lesions
Dr. S. Craig Schneider
This presentation introduces a major advancement in dentistry: the identification and treatment of extraosseous inflammatory lesions (EILs), which can cause orofacial pain, persistent infection, and healing failure after standard treatments like root canals, extractions, or implants. Using 2D/3D microscopy, it reveals how EILs spread beyond bone into soft tissues—often undetectable by current imaging—and how they integrate with surrounding structures. Long-term case studies show that successful resolution of symptoms and healing occurred only when both the infection source and EILs were fully removed. The immersive 3D segment explores complex cases involving teeth, implants, and their role in various oral diseases. High-resolution CBCT, new diagnostic paradigms, and medical implications are also discussed, emphasizing how precise diagnosis and treatment lead to predictable healing and long-term retention of teeth and implants.

Crown, crown-root and root fractures, endodontic and restorative aspects
Dr. Marga Ree
Tooth fractures can result from falls, sports, accidents, or impacts, ranging from minor enamel chips to complex crown-root fractures requiring multidisciplinary care. This presentation highlights current treatment strategies for crown, crown-root, and root fractures, emphasizing minimally invasive endodontic and restorative techniques.
Root fractures are relatively rare, often leading to uncertainty and overtreatment, despite many such teeth surviving for years without intervention. Marga Ree will present long-term follow-ups and discuss when and how to intervene.
Crown-root fractures typically run obliquely and extend subcrestally on the palatal side. Treatment may involve crown lengthening, orthodontic or surgical extrusion—the latter repositioning the tooth coronally within its socket, though it remains underutilized. Restorative options include fragment reattachment or use of composite and ceramics.
The session will explore clinical strategies to preserve teeth often considered unrestorable.

The Delicate Interplay Between Biological Advances and Clinical Expertise in the Long-Term Success of Root Canal–Treated Teeth
Dr. Domenico Ricucci
This presentation explores the evolving relationship between biological understanding and clinical practice in endodontics, and how this synergy informs the long-term success of root canal–treated teeth. It examines how advances in the knowledge of pulpal and periapical pathology have progressively shaped clinical decision-making and technique. Topics include strategies for preserving pulp vitality in early-stage pulp degeneration processes, insights into the biological responses of dental and periradicular tissues to trauma, and the complex anatomy and infection dynamics within the root canal system. Drawing on four decades of clinical experience, the presentation concludes with a comprehensive review of the factors influencing the long-term survival of endodontically treated teeth, highlighting the continuous refinement of treatment protocols in light of emerging biological insights.
